Ecumenical House at San Francisco State University provides a progressive, Christian opportunity to work with youth of the community and a safe place to explore one’s faith. The Presbyterian/Methodist/Episcopal/UCC Campus Ministry at SF State has been bringing the good news of loving and affirming Christian faith to university students for years, feeding their bodies and their souls from our house across the street of the main entrance to campus.
We now are beginning a new chapter of service working alongside Larkin Street Youth Services providing housing services for un-housed youth. Our building will house youth who identify as LGBTQ in Larkin Street’s Castro Youth Housing Initiative.
Ec House will move our work into the chapel and café space adjacent to the house. We will continue our café food program and our successful small group ministry which has continued during the pandemic. While we will will not be working directly with Larkin Street, this is a great opportunity for the church to serve two groups of young adults in one location.
We hope for a continuing, vital Ec House campus ministry and a very successful social service agency both helping youth from one location for years to come!
BUT… We need your help to do this!
Our long-serving house needs a lot of work to welcome new tenants. Much needed repairs and refinishing are underway because we want the LGBTQ youth to feel welcome and comfortable in their new home.
Can you help us make these repairs?
$2000 will replace the 50-year-old kitchen sink and counter tops
$1000 will clean the well-worn, beautiful parquet wooden flooring
$500 will put new grout in the shower tiling
$250 will refurbish the kitchen cabinets.
$100 will get one of the five bedrooms painted
$50 will pay the dump fees to clear the years of junk out of a storage room.
Any amount you can give will be much appreciated!
